Getting Started

So… you’re thinking about climbing, but you’re not sure where to start? Good thing you’ve come to the right spot!

Before you climb for the first time: all climbers MUST have a signed waiver form. Participants under 18 years of age will need to have one signed by their parent or legal guardian.

Learning to climb and belay:

Anytime you want to climb above 14 feet in our gym, you will need to have a partner to belay for you, to ensure your safety if you fall. The belayer (as they are called) takes up slack as you progress up the wall, and then lowers you gently down to the ground when they are done.

For those who are comfortable belaying, we offer a quick belay test anytime we are open. During the test you must demonstrate to a staff member that you can properly and safely operate all belaying equipment, and catch (and take) a fall. If you would like to learn how to belay, we offer a quick walk-in lesson anytime, as well as in depth one-hour introductory lessons by appointment. For more information on these, check out our classes page!

First-Time Climbers with Kids:

Climbing can be a fun activity for the whole family, and we have several climbing options that you should consider before planning a family activity at our gym:

Family Bouldering Trip

Everyone in your family may boulder together, which does not require any instruction or equipment rental. (for more information on bouldering, check out our FAQ page)

Adult Belayer Trip

If your children want to climb but you would just like to help them, you may belay for your kids without having to purchase a daily pass (you will have to pay for any rentals you might need, pricing is here).

Everyone Ropes Up

If you would like to climb on the ropes as well, you will need to bring someone at least 13 years old who is willing to belay for you, and must be willing to spend 10-15 minutes learning how to operate the equipment properly and safely.
